Dr Will Warhurst PGCE PhD

I have several years’ experience as a maths tutor, having worked with a number of local students at a range of levels and abilities. This includes working as an A level maths tutor supporting a gifted year 8 pupil at a local school. Following my undergraduate studies, I trained as a teacher and obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in 2018. I then returned to academic study and recently completed a PhD in Pure Mathematics, and have now returned to maths tutoring as a career.

My Services

  • For KS3, I primarily focus on supporting the student’s understanding of the topics they are currently covering in class. I aim to develop the fundamental building blocks of mathematics, to prevent later struggles arising from any earlier weaknesses.

  • At this level, in addition to supporting the student’s current class work, I focus on the coming GCSE exams. I include strategies for exam technique to enable the student to achieve the grades that reflect their full potential and can also give individualised feedback on past papers they have had marked in class.

  • The approach to A level is very similar to GCSE, in that I support the student’s class work while also focusing on exam preparation with an aim to enabling the student to reach the grades they are aspiring to. For students interested in pursuing maths at university I can also work on building a greater awareness of underlying mathematics and draw deeper connections between the concepts and techniques they are using.

  • Many non-maths degree courses - such as engineering or psychology - have a high mathematical content. For students studying these types of courses, I offer support with the sometimes complex concepts they may be faced with.
